Caption | Approach of the Grummans and spark of sunlight Drawn by Minoru Ozaki August 6, 1945, around 8:15 a.m. 1,700m from the hypocenter At the east end of the Minami-ohashi Bridge [Notes from the artist] After the bombing, two Grummans (U.S. fighter planes) appeared and fearing harm, I fled to the river. When I looked at the sky to see if the planes were still there, I noticed a ray (of sunlight) shine down on a bridge railing. A short time later, flames arose from the spot. *The artist learned later that those planes weren’t Grummans but Japanese fighter planes. |
